Ruby Unconf 2023 is happeing!

What exactly is an Unconference?

It is an Barcamp style event. It works like this: Everybody can propose a talk. Everybody votes for the talks they want to see. The most voted talks will be held. You decide what will happen!

Prepare a talk

We recommend to prepare slides for your talk. The talk length will be half an hour. You get the chance to pitch your talk at the beginning of each conference day. Besides talks different formats like workshops or panel discussions are welcome.

History

2023 will be the third Ruby Unconf. The first one took place in 2018. For a recap of the 2019 Ruby Unconf we have compiled a Recap to give you a little insight.

Food

This year we only want to provide vegan food like last year. In the morning there will be breakfast with sandwiches. After the first talks there will be a vegetarian lunch and in the afternoon you can enjoy your break with coffee and cake.

Childcare

Unfortunately we cannot provide childcare this year due to to few requests. We are very sorry about that and hope we can provide childcare next year.

Location

We're aiming to have the 2023 Ruby Unconf at the HAW Hamburg Finkenau again. (Finkenau 35, 22081 Hamburg, Germany)

Hamburg

Quoting Wikipedia:
Hamburg, officially the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, is the second-largest city in Germany after Berlin and 8th largest city in the European Union with a population of over 1.8 million.
Getting to Hamburg is easy. By bike, train, car, plane - even by boat. The Wikivoyage travel guide sums up everything you need to know about getting to and getting around Hamburg, finding a place to stay or even moving here.

Inclusivity & Diversity

Our scholarship program is meant to make Ruby Unconf a better unconference. We want to make this community-focused event accessible to the wide range of people who are learning, work with, or are Ruby enthusiasts. We welcome applicants from underrepresented groups in tech to apply. This includes, but is not limited to: women-identifying persons, people of color, LGBTQIA people, people with physical and mental disabilities and people facing economic and/or political hardships. Scholarship recipients will receive a Ruby Unconf Hamburg 2023 ticket.

With paying more than the recommended price of 75€ you help us make this happen.

The application phase has ended and applicants will be contacted.

Code of Conduct

The heart of the Ruby Unconference is people. This guideline is meant to support a happy, productive and safe event experience that can welcome new ideas and inspiration for all attendees. Regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and religion (or lack thereof). We gain strength from diversity, and actively seek participation from those who enhance it.

Contact

Latest news were published on our Twitter feed. You can easily leave us a note on Twitter, but via GitHub Issue or e-mail is also fine. On the conference itself we ask our participants if it's ok to have pictures taken with them. We won't publish pictures of people opting out of that. In case we accidentally did please leave us a note so we can remove the image. We are also happy to welcome volunteers to prepare the unconf or on the unconf itself. Most of preparation tasks can be done remotely. Just contact us!
